Sunday Reset

Sundays are the perfect opportunity to prepare for the entire week.  Start by pulling out your paper planner, calendar, or digital calendar and write down all your appointments, regular routines for work/school/family, and then take a close look.

What days is it going to be difficult for you to get supper on the table?  Crockpot or quick meal for those days?  When are you going to have time for your laundry and ironing?  Let's all pretend that we are ironing, please!  What days will you be completing a cleaning routine?

Once you have all your routines and appointments set in, take a look at what foods you have in the house for your meal plan.  Do you need to go to the market?  Are there things that need used before they spoil?  Use Pinterest, or our favourite cookbooks to plan out suppers or even all your meals for the week.

My next step is to pull up the weather for the week, and then plan out my outfits.  This is a quick way to ensure all the clothes I will need are clean and ready for wear.

Finally, I like to plan some "me time" into each day.  Mine is usually some form of beauty routine, but make yours anything that makes your heart sing!

Hot and Hazy Days!!

The weather has just been beating me down!  But the house rolls on and its needs never end!  During this hot but busy time you have to remember to work early before the hot sets in and saps your energy, plan quick and cool or crockpot meals, and extend yourself grace.  Grace is vital during times of difficult days, sour tempers, and sweaty nights.

Although we would all like to think that it is possible to soldier on with no breaks and no adjustments for these hard days, it is simply not true!  Finding small ways to cut down on your workload is a wonderful step to extend yourself grace.  Letting some particularly onerous jobs slide down your to do list will more than likely cause no harm as long as the basics are kept up.

Laundry, grocery shopping, meal prep, and basic cleanliness are paramount; all other housework may wait until the heat breaks!

Keeping up with the Weekend

Since it is Friday I thought I would address something that I can't remember being emphasized in my homemaking career, Weekend Prep.

To be fair, all the credit for this routine in my life is due to my Beloved.  Beloved works his "regular job" Monday through Friday and on the weekends he pursues his passion - photography.  I quickly realized that it was necessary for me to be prepared and have a company ready home for the whole weekend. To achieve this I developed my "Weekend Clean" routine that has served me quite well!!

Friday Afternoon:

Deep Clean the company/guest bathroom.  Restock all supplies.  Check on hand soap, and lay in fresh hand towels.

Vacuum all "company" areas, dust and wipe down the tables, lamps, and check tissue boxes.

Put a large pitcher of water in the refrigerator. Slice lemons if you'd like to offer them.  Check ice supply.

I try to always have a scented candle ready to burn or wax melts to scent the house.

Several times over the weekend, I will pop into the guest bathroom and wipe it thoroughly down with antibacterial wipes that I keep just for this purpose.  Check the toilet paper and switch out the hand towel.  Refresh your water pitcher and check the ice supply.

Enjoy your weekend knowing that your home will do you proud!

Welcome!

Good Morning! Welcome to the hot hazy days of humid summer!

Once the heat settles in, it becomes more and more difficult to get excited about cooking supper.  While the need for the evening meal does not wane, the desire and excitement to stand near the hot stove or oven does not!

Having many years in the homemaking business, I use the following strategy - I punt!  A frozen entrĂ©e paired with homemade sides, a completely prepared meal, or meat topped salads are my main go to meals in the heat.  I love a Monday meal of frozen baked pasta, a bag of salad and frozen garlic knots.  It leaves my mind clear to focus on getting my home back in order after the summer weekends of so many activities!

Scheduling your meals around quick and easy sandwiches, quesadillas, breakfast for supper and your trusty crock pot will have you breezing through summer - or at least trying to!
